Members of two Scots-Irish Presbyterian traditions, known as Covenanters and Seceders, began organizing nationally after the American Revolution. In 1782, the Reformed Presbytery of America and the Associate Presbytery of Pennsylvania merged to form the Associate Reformed Synod.
